Professor Purnendu Ghosh, Executive Director of Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR), Jaipur, has been involved with the planning and execution of a number of research and teaching programs in biotechnology and bioprocess engineering for the past two decades. Previous to his current assignment he was Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and also at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich , University of Melbourne , Gesselschaft biotechnologische Forschung (GBF), Braunschweig , Germany . His research interests are in the area of biological engineering and industrial biotechnology. He has been associated with several academic institutions and S&T agencies for the development and management of biotech activities in the country. Prof. Ghosh has been a member of Task Forces of DBT on Basic biology, Bioinformatics and is currently a member of the Task Force on Human Resource Development, Member, Scientific Advisory Committee on Biofuels and Bioenergy and Member Task Force on Bioengineering constituted by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. Prof. Ghosh is also coordinating a large biotech program at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi . He has taken a lead role in augmenting biotech activities in Rajasthan and Jharkhand. He is a member of Biotechnology Advisory Board of Govt. of Rajasthan and Govt. of Jharkhand. Prof. Ghosh is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering and has been conferred the Distinguished Visiting Professorship award of Indian National Academy of Engineering.
